Raksha Bandhan is a beloved festival in India, celebrating the unique bond between brothers and sisters. Traditionally, sisters tie a rakhi, a sacred thread, on their brothers’ wrists, symbolizing love and prayers in exchange for a promise of protection. While these rituals have been passed down through generations, the rise of social media has added a contemporary element to the celebrations.
Nowadays, many people capture these meaningful moments on camera and share them as reels on Instagram and other social media platforms, making it a popular way to celebrate and stay connected with each other.
In one instance, a 23-year-old woman asked her cousins to create a Raksha Bandhan reel with her, but they all declined, leaving her so upset that she chose not to participate in the festival. According to a Reddit post, the incident occurred when a group of cousins gathered at their sister’s home for the celebration. The user explained that his sister requested they make a reel using “cringe audio,” which they eventually refused. Despite her attempts to persuade them by showing examples from her friends, they still rejected the idea.
“She was so upset that she refused to tie me a Rakhi because of this. I still gave her gifts, but is a Reel really that important to people? She didn’t even speak to me afterward. Was I wrong?” the user shared.
