The Delhi Police had gone to the home of WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The police questioned 12 persons regarding charges of sexual harassment against Singh.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police went the Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, home of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. This happened a day after agitated wrestlers met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. At Singh’s house, the police questioned 12 persons regarding the charges of sexual harassment against Singh.
The names, residences, and identity cards of those who provided statements were also gathered by the Delhi Police.
On April 28, the Delhi Police filed two FIRs against Singh in response to complaints made by six professional wrestlers and the father of a minor alleging that Singh had harassed them sexually and engaged in inappropriate touching, groping, stalking, and intimidation at various times and locations, including abroad, over a ten-year period. The complainants made accusations against Singh, citing many instances from championship events as well as WFI offices both domestically and overseas.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP and the head of the Indian Wrestling Federation, has been accused of sexual harassment, and the local government has also rejected his request to organize a rally on June 5.
However, Singh claimed that the continuing police investigation into the wrestlers’ charges against him was the reason he decided to postpone the “Jan Chetna Maharally” at the Ram Katha Park for “a few days.”
Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sangeeta Phogat are among the wrestlers who have won medals at the Olympic and World Championships who have been protesting and calling for Singh’s arrest for reportedly molesting multiple female wrestlers, including a kid.
