X’s monthly report: Over 5 lakh Indian accounts banned in Feb

Elon Musk’s X platform (previously Twitter) published its monthly report, showing a strong crackdown on harmful content, in compliance with India’s new IT Rules, 2021. The January 26–February 25, 2024 report includes efforts done to handle delicate themes such child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and terrorism.

Top Priority: Banning Harmful Content

X banned 5,06,173 accounts encouraging child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. This decisive response shows the platform’s dedication to user safety and online responsibility. X also terminated 1,982 accounts in violation of its anti-terrorism standards. These removals demonstrate X’s dedication to user safety against harmful and unlawful content.

Resolving User Issues

In addition to content removals, X’s report highlights its grievance redressal procedure. X got 14,421 Indian user complaints about various issues throughout the reporting period. The platform reviewed and overturned 1 account suspension after further inquiry, showing its commitment to customer fairness. In addition, X received 41 suspended account appeals and 71 general account queries.

India’s Top Complaints

The research reveals India’s most common complaints, albeit the facts weren’t disclosed. Ban evasion led with 7,510 complaints, followed by suicide or self-harm (3,785), hateful conduct (1,395), and abuse/harassment (746). To sustain user satisfaction in India, X must address these reoccurring challenges.

Coming Soon: Streaming Service

X wants to grow its user base with a new streaming service while combating dangerous content. A person asked Elon Musk about the launch, and Musk replied “coming soon.” This new service may allow viewers to watch long-form videos on their smart TVs via apps for Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TVs. A streaming service might boost user engagement and attract more viewers, especially those used to watching media on larger screens.

X’s India monthly report shows a platform aggressively balancing user safety and content freedom. The IT Rules aim to remove hazardous information, while the new streaming service may adapt to more customer preferences. X’s long-term success depends on its ability to resolve customer concerns, maintain a safe environment, and provide an engaging user experience in the complex Indian internet market.
