Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali didn’t hold back when speaking about India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He compared Yashasvi Jaiswal current struggles to Prithvi Shaw decline, urging the youngster to bring back his focus and passion for the game before things slip further.

Jaiswal, who had a breakthrough year in 2023 and was seen as one of Indian cricket’s brightest talents, has not lived up to expectations this season. Since returning from India’s 3-1 Test series loss in Australia, his form in IPL 2025 has been disappointing. With just one notable knock — a 67-run innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad — his once-reliable performances have been replaced by inconsistency. As the Rajasthan Royals opener, he was known for his aggressive yet composed style, but lately, he seems to be struggling under pressure.

Basit Ali, speaking on his YouTube channel, was direct in his criticism. He suggested that Yashasvi Jaiswal may have lost the drive that once made him a standout player. “His stomach has filled. Jaiswal isn’t focusing on cricket. This is my open message: Cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring passion,” he said.

The comment serves as a sharp reminder that talent alone isn’t enough to sustain a career at the highest level. With rising expectations, Jaiswal now faces the challenge of rediscovering his rhythm and proving that he’s more than just a one-season wonder.
