Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a stellar performance in the second innings of the first Test against Australia at Perth’s Optus Stadium from November 22 to 25. The 22-year-old opener scored a remarkable 161 runs, anchoring India’s innings with a composed knock.
Opening the batting in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal faced 297 balls, smashing 15 fours and 3 sixes. He added 201 runs for the first wicket with KL Rahul, who contributed 77 runs to the partnership. Their efforts laid the foundation for India’s commanding 295-run victory in the series opener.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exceptional innings earned accolades from fans, cricket experts and former players worldwide. Playing in Australia for the first time, the young left-hander showcased remarkable skill and composure, cementing his place as a vital asset for India.
With the second Test set to begin on Friday, December 6, at Adelaide Oval, Jaiswal has an opportunity to etch his name in history. The batter has scored 1,280 runs in 12 Tests this year and is just 283 runs short of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 1,562 runs in a calendar year, achieved in 14 Tests in 2010.
If Jaiswal maintains his current form, he could also challenge the overall record held by Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 1,788 runs in 11 Tests in 2006.
All the best, Yashasvi Jaiswal!
