Aamir Khan has opened up about the backlash surrounding his son Junaid Khan’s theatrical debut in the romantic comedy Loveyapa, which co-starred Khushi Kapoor and marked Junaid’s first big-screen appearance. The film, unfortunately, failed to make an impact at the box office and was met with sharp criticism online. In a recent conversation with Raj Shamani, Aamir addressed the negativity surrounding the film and pointed to the ongoing nepotism debate as a key factor in its poor reception.

Reflecting on the film, Aamir khan stated, “When Loveyapa released, I really liked the film and thought Junaid had done a good job. The role he played was quite different from his real personality. Junaid has this quality — he transforms into the character.” Despite his appreciation for his son’s effort, Aamir believes the film fell victim to harsh public judgment. “I think uss film ko bohot negative backlash aaya. It was heavily trolled, nepotism mein bohot chali gayi ki yeh nepo kids hai,” he said, pointing out how quickly the film was labeled a product of privilege rather than judged on its own merits.

The Bollywood icon also emphasized that he has kept a deliberate distance from his son’s professional journey. “But Junaid and I are not like that. Until now, I’ve not interfered in his career, nor do I want to. In fact, I discouraged him from formally learning acting,” Aamir added, highlighting his belief in letting Junaid earn his place independently.

As the industry continues to grapple with questions around nepotism and merit, Aamir’s candid comments offer a personal insight into the pressures faced by star kids—and the complexity of navigating fame when legacy precedes talent.
