How to enable fuel-efficient routes

Activating the latest feature is simple. To access the new functionality at the user’s location, take these steps:

Launch Google Maps.
Tap profile photo or initials
Open settings.
Open Navigation settings.
Scroll to 'Route choices' and select "Prefer fuel-efficient routes" to enable eco-friendly routing.
Choose your engine type.
Tap 'Engine Type' and choose as needed. 

In a car with an internal combustion engine, you can select between petrol and diesel.

Choose hybrid or electric if you own a hybrid or electric automobile.

If you choose to skip this step, the app will default to petrol and propose a fuel-efficient route.

Google explained: “Engine type may affect the most fuel-efficient route. The fuel economy advantage of diesel vehicles is greatest on highways. As they employ regenerative braking more in stop-and-go city and uphill driving, hybrid and electric vehicles become more efficient.
