You can unlock your phone even after forgetting your password; Here’s how

If you forget your Android device’s password, a factory reset can fix it. This approach uses Google’s ‘Find My Device’ or ‘Recovery Mode’. Follow the on-screen instructions and verify your Google account to use recovery mode…

If you can’t unlock your phone due to a password issue, you can easily recover access. Just do a factory reset, but be aware that recent Android versions encrypt data by default, so you can’t retrieve photos, contacts, documents, etc. unless you’ve backed up to Google. Although the loss is considerable, a factory reset will unlock and clean your device so you can use it like a new phone.

Two ways to factory reset your smartphone:

If you forget your Android phone password and can’t lock it, there are two factory reset methods. Google’s ‘Find My Device’ tool lets you remotely wipe your smartphone’s data online.

Using ‘Recovery Mode’ is the second option if ‘Find My Device’ is not enabled.

To set up the phone, you need your Google account and password. Your device cannot unlock without the information. The security feature prevents illegal device use after a factory reset.
Find My Device instructions.

Visit [android.com/find] in your browser on your computer or device.(https://android.com/find)
Sign in with the Google account linked with your locked device, the smartphone's primary profile.
Select the handset to wipe data from the top left list.
Click ‘Erase device’ to erase all data on the locked device.
Follow the on-screen directions to set up your device again and validate your Google account.

How to utilize recovery mode?

This step may vary by smartphone brand, as several big brands offer distinct instructions:

For Google Pixel Stock Android Phones:
Long-press the Power button to turn off your phone.
Also, hold the Power and Volume Down keys for 10–15 seconds.
Use Volume Up and Volume Down to browse the menu to ‘Recovery Mode’.
Select recovery mode with the Power button.
The screen will say ‘No command’.
Hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously to continue.
A new menu appears. Scroll to ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ using Volume buttons.
Select Power there.
Choose ‘Factory data reset’ with the volume rockers and the Power button again.
The display will show "Data wipe complete" after the reset.
Scroll to ‘Reboot system now’ with the volume buttons and choose it with the Power button.

Motorola phone reset:

Hold Power to turn off your phone.
Hold Volume Down and Power.
When the boot menu appears, scroll 'Recovery Mode' with the Volume buttons and select it with the Power button.
Select 'Factory data reset' using the volume buttons and click Power again.
Select 'Reboot system now' and hit Power.

Samsung device reset steps:

Wait for your phone to die to turn it off.
Note that locked smartphones cannot be powered down.
For Samsung devices without Home or Power buttons, such as Galaxy S, Note10, Fold, or Z Flip series, press and hold Volume up and side buttons until device vibrates.
After that, you will see a Samsung logo. Galaxy S8, S9, and S10 have distinct power buttons.
Hold the Volume up, Power, and Bixby buttons until your phone vibrates.
This activates Recovery mode.
In Samsung phones with physical Home buttons (like the Galaxy S6 and S7), Hold the Volume up, Home, and Power buttons until the phone vibrates.
Release just Power.
Once the recovery menu appears, release the remaining buttons.
Volume buttons highlight 'Wipe data/factory reset.'
Select with the Power button.
Press the Power button again and choose "Yes," "Yes - delete user data," or "Factory data reset."

Conclusion

If your Android device’s password is broken, a factory reset can fix it. This approach uses Google’s ‘Find My Device’ or ‘Recovery Mode’. Follow the on-screen instructions and verify your Google account to use recovery mode. Turn off your basic Android phone and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for 10–15 seconds. In ‘Recovery Mode’, select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’. Hold Power and Volume Up on Motorola phones. Press and hold Volume up, Home, and Power on Samsung devices until they vibrate. Select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ and press Power.
