You won’t need passwords again: Google introduces passkeys for secure logins

Google now uses “passkeys” to sign in users with fingerprints, PINs, or unique patterns. This novel approach streamlines future sign-ins and protects against phishing.

Google made “passkeys” the default sign-in mechanism for all users to improve security. Biometric sensors like fingerprint or facial recognition, a PIN, or a unique pattern can be used to access apps and websites instead of passwords. Users no longer have to memorize complex passwords using this smart method.

Google stated on its blog, “You’ll receive passkey prompts the next time you sign in, facilitating future sign-ins. It also toggles the ‘Skip password when possible’ option in Google Account settings.” Google admits that while this is a big step forward, the switch from passwords may take time.

Passkeys save users time by eliminating the need to remember numbers and special characters. They protect against phishing too.

Starting in February 2024, Google will tighten Gmail bulk sender rules. Spam and unsolicited emails should be reduced. Users who send more than 5,000 Gmail messages daily must follow the new restrictions to keep their inboxes clean.
