A group of burglars broke into Manikandan’s ancestral home in Usilampatti, Madurai. The thieves stole two National Film Award medals belonging to the Tamil director. But, in a bizarre turn of events, the burglars returned some of their stolen money, the filmmaker’s prizes.
The burglars put a plastic bag with the stolen medals and an apology message outside the director’s house gate two days after the break-in. The Tamil note stated, “Sir, please forgive us. “Your hard work is yours,” Deccan Herald reported. Along with the prizes, the study found over 15 sovereigns of gold, Rs 1 lakh in cash, and other items stolen from the property.
Manikandan, who lives with his dog, was away from Chennai during the burglary. A pair of the director’s buddies fed his dog at home and discovered the theft.
Usilampatti Deputy Superintendent of Police C. Nallu told The Hindu, “When one of his employees, Naresh, returned home on Sunday night from the cinema theatre, he found the plastic bag hanging on the gate.”
About the prizes’ return, the officer said, “The valuables are yet to be retrieved. However, we noticed the awards were returned.” He added that a formal case has been filed and investigations are continuing.
