Anushka Sharma once opened up about her earlier years, describing herself as being arrogant and snobbish during her school and college days. In a conversation with Headlines Today, she admitted to having an inflated sense of self, believing she was the “prettiest girl”. This perspective changed when she met filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who gave her a “reality check” during her debut film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
Recalling the meeting, Anushka shared, “I used to be really arrogant before becoming an actor. I didn’t talk to too many people in school. I was very snobbish. My mum says she’s happy I became an actor because I got a reality check from Aditya Chopra. He told me, ‘You’re doing a film, but you’re not the most good-looking girl.’ Until then, in my head, I thought I was. It was a shock.”

Despite his blunt honesty, Aditya Chopra believed in her potential. However, Karan Johar, his close friend and renowned filmmaker, was less convinced. In 2016, during the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Karan revealed that he had advised Aditya not to cast Anushka and suggested another actress for the role instead. He even admitted to trying to “sabotage” her career before it began.
