uvraj Singh’s Tweet Goes Viral After South Africa Defeats Australia In WTC 2025 Final

Lord’s witnessed a monumental upset in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final as South Africa clinched a thrilling five-wicket victory over Australia.

From June 11 to 14, the “Home of Cricket” saw the Proteas successfully chase down a challenging target of 282 runs, denying the favored Australians the coveted title. Opener Aiden Markram was the architect of this historic win, scoring a magnificent 136 runs in the second innings. His crucial 147-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Temba Bavuma, who contributed a solid 66, was instrumental in sealing South Africa’s triumph.

Following South Africa’s long-awaited ICC title victory—their first in 27 years—former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to X to commend the Proteas while subtly teasing the Australian side. “The class of 2025 ends a 27-year wait and lifts the ICC World Test Championship Trophy in style! Huge congrats to the @ProteasMenCSA on a historic win at Lord’s. I’ve always believed there’s no greater measure of resilience and character than Test cricket and South Africa rose to the occasion! #AidenMarkram’s century was pure class. @KagisoRabada25, @marcojansen2000 and @NgidiLungi brought relentless intensity and #TembaBavuma led with calm and courage. A final worthy of the format Tough luck #Australia! You know It’s okay to let go of one trophy #WTCFinal,” Yuvraj wrote, perfectly capturing the essence of the Proteas’ hard-fought victory and Australia’s surprising defeat.

Here is his tweet:

Australia had entered the WTC 2025 final as strong favorites, and their position seemed even more secure when Mitchell Starc dismissed Ryan Rickelton for just six runs on the very first ball of the third over during South Africa’s run chase on Friday, June 13. However, the momentum swiftly shifted as Markram, first with Wiaan Mulder and then with Bavuma, steadily built partnerships that kept the Australian bowlers at bay, ultimately bringing an end to South Africa’s more than two-decade-long quest for an ICC trophy.
