PM Modi inaugurates Rs.280cr Centre for Brain Research at IISC campus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) recently. Rs 280 crore was spent to establish the Centre at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Centre for Brain Research (CBR) on the campus of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on Monday. PM Modi himself lay the foundation stone of the Centre, which was set up at the cost of Rs 280 crore.

During the program, the Prime Minister also lay the groundwork for the 832-bed Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispeciality Hospital.

According to authorities, the CBR is a one-of-a-kind research center that focuses on doing critical research to deliver evidence-based public health strategies to address age-related brain problems. The occasion was attended by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and S Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of IT behemoth Infosys, and his family.

According to authorities, the Centre for Brain Research was created as an autonomous, non-profit research entity under the IISc thanks to a substantial contribution from Gopalakrishnan and his wife Sudha Gopalakrishnan.

According to them, CBR is supported by philanthropy and receives research funding from several awarding authorities for specific initiatives. Gopalakrishnan has also contributed cash for the development of a cutting-edge facility for CBR on the IISc campus, and his charitable donation is the greatest in India’s history for scientific research.

The Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispeciality Hospital, the foundation for which was set today, will be built on the IISc Bengaluru campus and will aid in the integration of science, engineering, and medicine at the premier institute.

It will give a significant boost to clinical research in the country and will endeavor to identify creative solutions that will aid in the improvement of healthcare services in the country, according to authorities.

In February, IISc formed a collaboration with benefactors Susmita and Subroto Bagchi, as well as Radha and N S Parthasarathy, to build the Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital.

Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the IISC, stated, “The couples will contribute Rs 425 crore (about USD 60 million) to the construction of an 800-bed, non-profit, multi-speciality hospital. This is the greatest single private grant received by IISc since its inception.”
