AVSAR, a tech-enabled HR services firm with a Rs. 500 crore annual revenue, was founded in Begusarai, Bihar, by former Flipkart employee, Navneet Singh,

AVSAR provides staffing, recruiting, sales outsourcing, temporary staffing, talent acquisition, volume hiring, compliance management, and leadership hiring to connect job seekers and employers.

In 2016, Navneet and three college buddies raised Rs. 15 lakh to create AVSAR with one person. The Gurugram-based firm employs 200 people.

The organization has offices in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, although Navneet claims that their team is in every Indian city from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Navneet recalls growing up in Begusarai, 125 miles from Patna, “I grew up in a tiny town with my elder brother and parents. Like most 90s kids, I had a regular upbringing.

“Back then, Bihar was very different, with small towns like ours having irregular power supply and poor roads, which affected our academics and daily lives.”

He recalls, “My family bought our first black-and-white Onida TV in 1997, when most of my neighbors had TVs.

It seemed like a dream come true. I loved the children’s show ‘Shaktiman’ and was thrilled when we got our own TV. Before that, I occasionally watched shows at our neighbor’s house.”

His mother teaches at Kendriya Vidyalaya, while his father retired as a semi-government college principal.

Navneet, 37, graduated from KV Begusarai in 2004. He earned a B.Sc. in Biotechnology in 2008 and an MBA in Marketing & HR in 2010 from MS Ramaiah College in Bengaluru.

Navneet became a Flipkart HR professional after earning his MBA. Their Bengaluru and Delhi branches employed him till 2015.

He then worked as an Assistant Manager at Ola Cabs for seven months before becoming a Swiggy Senior Consultant in Bengaluru.

but at Swiggy, Navneet saw that organizations like Swiggy needed human assistance but job seekers struggled to find suitable roles.

Navneet founded a workforce recruiting firm to bridge this gap after this realization. He recalls “Leaving a well-paying job to start our own business in a market with established competitors was difficult.”

Three of my college classmates and I invested Rs. 15 lakh of our own resources to launch AVSAR (‘opportunity’ in Hindi), now SPNN Business Services Pvt. Ltd.”

Established in 2016, the firm earned Rs. 34 lakh in 2016-17. It surpassed 100 crore turnover in 2019-20 after rising to Rs. 3 crore in 2017-18.

While the other co-founders worked for MNCs, Navneet ran the firm alone.

Using his Swiggy knowledge, he approached them first to offer manpower services, and they became the company’s first customer. Navneet hired the first team member after Swiggy’s business.

AVSAR began in Bengaluru as a blue-collar recruiting firm before adding supply chain, sales, and leadership hires.

The firm charges employers a monthly payroll administration fee of 2-12%, depending on variables.

AVSAR also charges employers a one-time sourcing fee of Rs. 500–5000 each placement. Candidates placed through AVSAR pay no fees.

Major companies including Flipkart, Amazon, Reliance, Tata, Zomato, Swiggy, Udaan, Walmart, Tata Croma, BigBasket, Zepto, and Phone Pe are clients.

Their 5,000-square-foot headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana, employs 60–70 individuals. The organization claims to be Amazon and Flipkart’s third-largest personnel vendor.

Navneet recalls the early challenges of convincing larger firms to use their services. “In the beginning, it was difficult to convince bigger companies to use our services, but our reputation and quality helped them gain trust and establish AVSAR in the industry.”

Technology has been heavily invested in by AVSAR. They have two main process optimization tools.

First, the AVSAR HR Services app lets employees manage their information, check payslips, and read correspondence. The second is a proprietary employee onboarding tool (OB).

applicants register on the AVSAR portal, which has 500,000 applicants, to join the database.

The COVID-19 epidemic was a nightmare for Navneet, like many other firms. Within two weeks, our clients’ payrolls reduced from 12,000 to 6,000. It was hard to pay our 120 on-staff people, he recalls.

We broke the company’s fixed deposit to pay salaries. We didn’t decrease salary or layoffs despite the situation. After a few months, e-commerce picked up, but the recovery was gradual.

However, Covid offered us cost-cutting insights. We had nice offices at all seven sites, but we downsized to cheaper quarters, used Zoom calls to decrease travel costs, and slashed advertising.”

Navneet wants to employ one lakh individuals across several organizations and commercialize the AVSAR and OB Tool apps, which might produce income.

Founder and CEO Navneet is assisted by COO Satyabrata Sethy, directors Prateek Jha and Nitish PN.

Navneet is happily married to Monika and has a five-year-old kid, Atharv. Monika runs Atharv Seva, a child education and hygiene NGO.

Golf and reading self-help, financial, and business books are Navneet’s hobbies.

He tells young entrepreneurs to treat life like a test match, not a one-day game. “Be patient and anchored for the appropriate opportunity. Accept the road, be patient, confident, and positive to achieve something great.”
