Veteran actress Asha Parekh, who has shared the screen with numerous iconic actors, recently revealed an interesting fact about her frequent co-star, Rajesh Khanna. The actress claimed that Rajesh Khanna, despite his superstar status, was actually scared of her early in his career. Asha made this surprising statement during an appearance on Indian Idol, where she shared memories from her time working with Rajesh Khanna.
Asha Parekh recalled that when she first worked with Rajesh Khanna in the film Baharon Ke Sapne, he was very much an introvert. She mentioned that during the early stages of his career, Rajesh Khanna “wouldn’t speak to anyone” on set, adding to his quiet and reserved nature. This introversion may have been why Rajesh felt nervous around his more experienced co-star.
She said, “Actually he was scared of me. Because he had just started his career so he would just be a little hesitant. One day, he looked at me and turned his face so I felt very bad. I said, ‘no dates’. After that, he was scolded. Then he called me and he said I didn’t mean it like that. He said it was because he was scared of me.”
Despite his initial shyness, Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh went on to create magic on-screen in several hit films. Their notable collaborations include Baharon Ke Sapne, Kati Patang, Aan Milo Sajna, and Dharm Aur Qanoon. Among these, Kati Patang is remembered as one of their biggest successes, solidifying their status as one of Bollywood’s favourite on-screen pairs.
