According to a Tuesday announcement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, veteran Bollywood performer Asha Parekh has been chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke award 2020. At the National Film Awards ceremony, which will take place in New Delhi on Friday, the prize will be handed.

Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur announced the award, saying, “The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise and honour Asha Parekh ji for her extraordinary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.” Moreover, President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the 68th National Film Awards ceremony.

Asha Parekh is a well-known film actress, director, and producer as well as a skilled classical dancer, the I&B ministry stated in a statement. Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Aan Milo Sajna, and Mera Gaon Mera Desh are just a few of the over 95 films she has appeared in since making her acting debut as a child actor in Dil Deke Dekho.

In addition to being named the head of the Central Board of Film Certification from 1998 to 2001, Parekh received the Padma Shri honour in 1992. Singer Asha Bhosle, actor-MP Hema Malini, actor Poonam Dhillon, director T S Nagabharana, and singer Udit Narayan made up the jury for the 52nd Dadasaheb Phalke award.

The greatest honour bestowed on a filmmaker in the nation is the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, and Vinod Khanna, actors, are among its previous recipients (posthumously).

The 68th National Film Awards (for 2020) were announced in July, with Tamil film “Soorarai Pottru” and Hindi film “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior” taking home the most awards. Tanhaji, which follows the story of Maratha fighter Tanaji Malusare, won three Oscars, while Soorarai Pottru, which won five, is based on incidents in the life of Air Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath.

Tanhaji’s Ajay Devgn and Soorarai Pottru’s Suriya, who played the lead roles in both films, split the best actor award. Best actress for Aparna Balamurali is one of Soorarai Pottru’s accolades.
