The IPL Governing Council chairman, Arun Dhumal, has confirmed that the BCCI was not informed about the victory parade organized by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to celebrate their title win.
Despite this, Dhumal stated that the board intends to investigate the incident to prevent a recurrence of the tragic stampede that occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in eleven fatalities and numerous injuries during the felicitation of RCB players on Wednesday evening.
“We have taken note and will see that such incidents never happen again. We had no knowledge of any victory parade or any celebrations taking place in Bengaluru. We had no idea who organised it and how so many fans came there. We will look into the matter,” Dhumal said.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia acknowledged that the cricket board does not typically control a franchise’s celebrations. However, he emphasized that the stampede serves as a cautionary tale and should provide a valuable lesson for future celebratory events.
