Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed has landed in hot water after making controversial remarks about Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma. In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), she body-shamed the World Cup-winning skipper, calling him “fat” and even went as far as branding him “the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!”
Her post sparked immediate outrage, with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia slamming her remarks as “very unfortunate,” especially at a time when Rohit Sharma is leading Team India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia. “It’s very unfortunate that this kind of remark for our captain has come from a person who is on a responsible post, especially at a time when Team India is playing an ICC tournament and is all set to play the semi-final match,” Saikia told ANI.
Rohit Sharma, who recently led India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, is widely regarded as one of the finest Indian captains. Following Shama’s comments, the BJP launched a scathing attack on Congress, mocking the party’s track record under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla fired back, stating, “Those who have lost 90 elections under the captaincy of Rahul Gandhi are calling the captaincy of Rohit Sharma unimpressive! I guess 6 ducks in Delhi and 90 election losses are impressive, but winning the T20 World Cup isn’t! Rohit has a brilliant track record as captain, by the way!”
Shama Mohamed’s remarks have not only angered cricket fans but have also turned into a political flashpoint. Will Congress respond to the backlash, or will this controversy escalate further?
