The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India’s aviation authority, released figures showing a 9% year-over-year increase in domestic flight traffic to 12.7 million passengers. SpiceJet saw the greatest level of capacity utilisation, or passenger load factor, at 90.8%, up from 90.1% in October. The passenger load factor for IndiGo, the biggest airline in India, was 85.6%, up from 83.3% the previous month.
In November, IndiGo’s market share was measured at 61.8%, with Air India coming in second at 10.5%. Due to the addition of aircraft on wet lease, SpiceJet’s market share increased to 6.2% in October from 5%. With an on-time record of 78.2%, India’s newest airline Akasa Air was the most punctual in November, while SpiceJet was the least with 41.8%.
