Bollywood star Ananya Panday recently shared amusing memories from her school days with Sara Ali Khan, revealing a few humorous anecdotes about their interactions as students. Although the two are friends now, Ananya admitted she was initially “terrified” of Sara, who was known for her outspoken personality.
During her recent interview, Ananya described Sara as “muhfat” (a Hindi slang for someone outspoken) even in school, where she was known for speaking her mind freely. Ananya, three years younger, admitted she would often avoid crossing paths with Sara. “If she was walking down a staircase, I would take the other one,” she shared, highlighting her younger self’s nerves around Sara.
One standout memory Ananya Panday recalled was a school play where the two performed together. Sara, playing a lead role, did not remember Ananya’s name and would simply call her “ae,” meaning “hey” in Hindi. Ananya laughed as she remembered holding an umbrella for Sara on stage while being called “ae girl.” Reflecting on it now, she explained, “She didn’t know my name at all. Now she says, ‘what rubbish! I treated you so well.’”
Years after school, Ananya and Sara reconnected as friends in the film industry. Ananya recalled Sara’s warmth and welcoming nature when she first entered Bollywood. “She debuted a year before I did and she was very welcoming, always inviting me out for lunch,” Ananya said, noting the camaraderie the two now share. The pair even appeared together last year on Karan Johar’s talk show Koffee With Karan, showcasing their now-easy friendship.
