AP man quit job to promote healthy living with millet in his village

K V Rama Subba Reddy, an Andhra Pradesh (AP) native, left his corporate position in Delhi to return to his village and launch two enterprises promoting healthy living via millet meals.

K V Rama Subba Reddy of Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district has always wanted to spend time farming in his charming hamlet, despite working in the corporate pitch for 28 years as a cost accountant.

While working as an accountant in Delhi, Reddy managed his farm whenever he visited his village. His brothers took over when he was abroad.

With this in mind, he chose to leave his well-paying job and comfortable city life in 2017 to become a full-time “modern farmer.”

Reddy purchased 20 acres of land near his horticultural farm in 2017 to begin millet farming.

Dr.Khader Vali, who is from the same state, is well-known for his tireless work over the last 20 years in resurrecting five positive millets.

In addition to cultivating millets and utilising traditional farming methods, Reddy chose to establish a millet processing business and an agro firm to create value-added goods from the crop. In this approach, he hoped to disseminate information about millet’s health advantages throughout the country.

Renadu and Mibbles, two brands created by Reddy in 2018, one for selling whole grains and the other for premade millet food items.

In addition to harvesting from his 60-acre farm, he contracted with roughly 20 millet farmers in the state and acquired their crop at a predetermined fee at the time of seeding.

While the firm gradually improved over the next two years, the pandemic-induced lockdown put everything on pause, according to the owner.

Reddy says he partnered with Apollo hospitals two years ago to offer millets for nutritional meals for patients.

Reddy is renowned as the’ millet man’ among the state’s millet growers.

All of the goods are available for purchase on their respective official websites and e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Indiamart, and meal delivery apps such as Zomato and Swiggy.

Furthermore, the items are available at their two stores in Hyderabad and Nandyal. The items are sent throughout India.

This year, Reddy got the ANGRAU- RARS Nandyal award for ‘Best Progressive Farmer,’ as well as the ICAR-IIMR in Hyderabad award for ‘Best Startup Farmers Connect,’ for large-scale millet production and delivery across the nation.
