The Indian cricket team certainly missed its best test batter Virat Kohli in the first two test matches as he decided to pull out due to personal reasons. While there were reports that Virat Kohli may miss the third and the fourth test match as well, now it is totally clear that he has withdrawn from the remaining three test matches as well and the Indian team has to play the next three matches without him.
As per the reports, in a virtual meeting on Friday, the former Indian skipper informed the selectors that he won’t be able to play the remaining three test matches against England which will be played at Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamshala.
The selectors delayed the selection of team India for the remaining test matches as they were waiting for the fitness reports of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja because their presence in middle order becomes more important in the absence of Virat Kohli. Both Rahul and Jadeja missed the second test match due to injuries and it is also being said that the selectors may drop Shreyas Iyer due to his poor form.
A BCCI official stated, “We are waiting for clearances and updates on Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul and that is what led to the delay in selectors announcing the squad. We are talking about two big players so it’s important to get a clear picture on both of them before going ahead with the team selection for the series.”
As per the latest reports, the team for the remaining three test matches have been announced and it is on the expected lines as Shreyas Iyer has been dropped and KL Rahul along with Ravindra Jadeja has been included the in the squad but their participation will depend on the fitness clearance from the medical team.
The series is currently poised at 1-1 and the third test match will be played at Rajkot from 15 Feb.
