India’s fast bowler Mohammad Shami will miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, the BCCI announced on Monday. Shami, who last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, was expected to return after sitting out the New Zealand series. However, the medical team has declared him unfit for the ongoing Test series.
The BCCI explained that while Md. Shami has recovered from surgery on his right heel, swelling in his left knee remains an issue. According to the board, Shami has been under close medical supervision at the Centre of Excellence for recovery and rehabilitation.
Despite his heel recovery, Shami’s knee condition has delayed his full return to international cricket. He recently played domestic cricket for Bengal, bowling 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in November.
Shami also featured in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he took extra steps to regain his form and fitness by participating in additional bowling sessions to prepare for Test cricket.
