The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a serious warning to all ten IPL franchises and their officials about a businessman operating out of Hyderabad, who is reportedly attempting to lure participants into corrupt activities. The alert has been extended to cover team owners, players, coaches, support staff, and even commentators, urging them to maintain distance and immediately report any form of contact with the individual.
According to a detailed report, the businessman has “clear links” to punters and bookies who have been previously involved in illegal betting and corrupt activities. Despite his shady background, the man has been posing as an enthusiastic cricket fan, using that guise to gain access to IPL participants.
He has allegedly been seen frequenting team hotels and attending matches, where he has been attempting to befriend players and staff. His methods reportedly include striking up casual conversations, extending invitations to private parties, and even offering gifts to team members and their families.
The report also notes that the businessman has not limited his advances to just players. He has reportedly made attempts to approach franchise owners, coaches, support personnel, and on-air commentators as well, raising the alarm for the BCCI’s anti-corruption wing.
With the high-profile tournament underway and the stakes running high both on and off the field, the ACU’s alert serves as a timely reminder of the constant vigilance needed to protect the integrity of the game.
