In a significant development, Indian cricketers will now be permitted to have their families accompany them for one match during the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament, which will be played entirely in Dubai, will see Team India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, compete in all their matches at the venue, including the semifinal and final if they qualify.
Earlier reports suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had implemented strict measures following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, including a 10-point directive aimed at restoring discipline among players. One of the rules limited the time spent with family on overseas tours, allowing players’ families to stay with them only for up to two weeks on tours exceeding 45 days. Initial reports even indicated that players selected for the Champions Trophy would not be allowed to bring their families to the UAE at all.
However, according to reports, the BCCI has reconsidered its stance and decided to ease restrictions for the high-profile event, scheduled to begin on February 19. A source within the BCCI confirmed that if a player wishes, he can now bring his family to Dubai for a single match during the tournament.
India has been drawn into Group A, where they will face Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. The team will kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on February 23, before concluding the group stage against New Zealand on March 2.
Meanwhile, news agency PTI recently reported that a senior Indian player had inquired whether an exception could be made for families to accompany players during the Champions Trophy. While the BCCI has now permitted family visits, players will have to cover the expenses themselves, as the board will not be responsible for any associated costs.
