Bhansali Clarifies Rumours About Love And War; Confirms It’s Not A Sangam Remake

In a recent interview, acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali put an end to speculation surrounding his upcoming film Love And War, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Contrary to popular belief, Bhansali confirmed that the film is not a remake of the 1964 classic Sangam, quashing the ongoing rumours.

“You should not remake Sholay or Mother India. So, why would I remake Sangam?” Bhansali said, making it clear that Love And War is an original project. He emphasized that this film marks a departure from his usual style, with no period settings, grand costumes, or opulent sets. “It’s contemporary. The music is different. It’s a new space for me, and I’m enjoying it.”

Love And War brings Bhansali and Ranbir Kapoor back together after nearly two decades. Their last collaboration was Saawariya in 2007, and Bhansali is excited to showcase the actor in a new light. “It’s exciting to work with Ranbir again,” Bhansali shared. Fans are eager to see what this fresh collaboration will bring, given Ranbir’s growth as an actor since Saawariya.

Bhansali also expressed his enthusiasm for working with Alia Bhatt once again, after their successful collaboration on Gangubai Kathiawadi. “There’s still so much to tap into with Alia. She’s a powerhouse,” he said, revealing that he looks forward to exploring more of her talent in this new film. Meanwhile, Love And War will mark Vicky Kaushal’s first collaboration with Bhansali, adding another exciting dimension to the film’s star-studded cast.

Describing Love And War as a deeply personal project, Bhansali shared how important the film is to him. However, he also noted the challenges involved in bringing it to life. “It’s a difficult film for me, so I’m being careful. I won’t take my actors, myself, or the audience for granted,” Bhansali said, hinting at the meticulous approach he is taking.

Although excitement for Love And War is building, fans will need to be patient. Bhansali confirmed that the film is slated for release in March 2026, as he takes the time to perfect his ambitious vision.
