Blow to the Congress: Chandrapur MP ‘Balu’ Dhanorkar passes away

Congress’s party only Lok Sabha MP in Maharashtra, Balu Dhanorkar, died suddenly in Delhi on May 30. His death is not just a setback for his family but also a blow for the Congress in the Vidarbha region.

Chandrapur MP Suresh Dhanorkar, commonly known as ‘Balu’ Dhanorkar, died suddenly early in the morning on May 30 at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital in the Delhi-National Capital Region, according to sources inside the Congress party. He was the party’s sole representative in the Lok Sabha from the state of Maharashtra.

Last week, in order to receive treatment for kidney stones, Dhanorkar, who is 47 years old, was taken to a hospital in the city of Nagpur.

However, his condition continued to deteriorate, and on May 29th, he was transported to Delhi in an air ambulance.

Dhanorkar is survived by his wife, Congress politician Pratibha Dhanorkar, an MLA from the Warora-Bhadrawati assembly seat in Chandrapur, as well as two boys. Pratibha Dhanorkar is an MLA from the Chandrapur assembly sector.

Dhanokar began his political career as a member of the Shiv Sena in the Chandrapur district under the leadership of Balasaheb Thackeray. He went on to win the Warora-Bhadrawati assembly seat in the 2014 election for the Maharashtra Assembly.

He then defected to the Congress party and was nominated by the party to run against the veteran BJP politician Hansraj Ahir for the Chandrapur Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general election. At the time, Hansraj Ahir was the current MP of Chandrapur and was in the midst of his fourth term in office.

At a time when all of the towering leaders of the Maharashtra Congress party were being brought down like dominoes by the onslaught of the BJP, Dhanorkar held his own and showed himself to be a ‘giant killer’ by defeating a well-known politician and a former Union Minister named Mr. Ahir.

It is a double tragedy for Dhanorkar’s family, as his death comes only days after that of his father, Narayan Dhanorkar, who died away on Saturday of last week, a day before the late MP was sent to Delhi for treatment. While Dhanorkar’s departure is a loss for his party in the Vidarbha area, it is a double tragedy for his family, as it is a setback for his party in the Vidarbha region.

According to sources inside the party, the mortal remains of Dhanorkar would be flown in on a specialized aircraft and taken to Warora. Tomorrow, May 31, will be the day when the last rites are performed in Warora.
