CBI investigates tragic Odisha train crash that wounded 1000, left 278 dead

Earlier this month a tragic train crash occurred in the Balasore district of Odisha. A CBI team has now arrived on the site.

On Sunday, the Railway Board made the decision to give the  Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team the control of the probe into the June 2 incident that occurred in Odisha‘s Balasore district, where a triple train crash  and left 278 people dead and almost 1,000 wounded. A 10-person Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has now arrived on the site of incident.

Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, the South Eastern Railway’s CPRO, announced that the CBI and forensic teams were there. They are doing their inquiry and gathering evidence. They are receiving aid from Railway. CBI would conduct the inquiry from every perspective.

“The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) team is also working at multiple locations, including Balasore and Kharagpur,” he continued. They are gathering all of the data. Regarding the passing of the station master’s loco pilot, some false information has been circulated. The Loco pilot is receiving treatment in Bhubaneswar and is in good health.

According to reports, the IPC and Railway Act provisions pertaining to causing a death by carelessness are among the ones under which the Odisha police have filed a case. While 200 individuals are currently being treated at various hospitals, officials have stated that at least 101 deceased have not yet been recognized and claimed by their families.

On Tuesday, Congress criticized the Centre once more for suggesting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) look into the Balasore railway catastrophe in Odisha and referred to it as little more than “headlines management” for missing deadlines.

Jairam Ramesh, the party general secretary in charge of communications, criticized the administration by claiming that the CBI investigation had been launched even before the Commissioner of Railway Safety had turned in his report on the Balasore train catastrophe. Nothing more than headlines about management missing deadlines.

The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train were all involved in a terrible train disaster in Odisha that resulted in at least 278 fatalities and about 1100 injuries. Around 7 p.m. on Friday, June 2, the train accident—one of the bloodiest in recent Indian history—took place close to the Bahanaga Baazar station in the Balasore district.

On the way to Howrah, many coaches of the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express derailed and collapsed on the nearby track. Some of the coaches of the Coromandel Express, which was traveling to Chennai, derailed and collided with the wagons of a freight train, which was also involved in the catastrophe. Gas cutters are being used to remove the bodies from underneath the crashed carriages while rescue efforts are in progress.
