Champions League: Rafael Leao returns to AC Milan in triple injury boost

Rafael Leao would be returning to the AC Milan lineup tonight as part of a triple injury boost for the team’s Champions League semi-final second leg match against Inter.

After both Rade Krunic and Junior Messias missed the Rossoneri’s loss at Spezia over the weekend due to injuries, head coach Stefano Pioli is hopeful that both players will be able to return to action.

But the most significant piece of information is that Leao, the Portuguese attacker who was instrumental in Milan’s victory over Napoli in the quarterfinals but did not play in the first leg of the match against Inter Milan because of a thigh injury, has returned to the team.

After reporting to training over the weekend, it is anticipated that he will crank up his preparations for Tuesday’s game in an effort to complete a miraculous comeback in the Champions League.

Pioli has said that he intends to start with three offensive midfielders, despite the fact that Ismael Bennacer is unable to play due to an injury. This decision was made in part because of the overall deficit of two goals.

Due to a problem with his knee, the Algerian will not be able to participate in the remainder of the season. He will be joining Alessandro Florenzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench.

Inter went one step further than Milan by taking seven first-team regulars out of the lineup for the win over Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri were helped by their more solid position in the league, which allowed them to make this decision. Milan did rest players before to the game.

A number of familiar faces, like Lautaro Martinez, Andre Onana, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella, are expected to be back. Milan Skriniar is currently out with an injury.

When it comes to deciding who will start alongside Martinez in the forward position, Simone Inzaghi is once again forced to choose between Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko.
