Champions Trophy 2025: Virat Kohli Surpasses Shikhar Dhawan As He Becomes….

Batting superstar Virat Kohli etched his name in the history books on Tuesday, March 4, by becoming India’s highest run scorer in the Champions Trophy.

The 36-year-old right-handed batter surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s record of 701 runs to claim the top position. In the ongoing match against Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Virat Kohli needed 40 runs to break Dhawan’s record. He achieved this milestone by taking a single in the fourth over of the 23rd over of the run chase, bowled by Glenn Maxwell.

Dhawan had played 10 matches for India across two editions of the Champions Trophy, amassing 701 runs with the help of three centuries and three fifties. Kohli, on the other hand, reached this historic achievement in what is his 17th Champions Trophy match for the Men in Blue.

While Virat Kohli now holds the Indian record, the overall highest run-scorer in the history of the Champions Trophy remains former West Indies batter Chris Gayle. Gayle accumulated 791 runs in 17 matches for the Men in Maroon. He is closely followed by former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, who played 22 matches in the tournament and scored 742 runs for Sri Lanka.

With this latest feat, Kohli has further cemented his place as one of the finest batters in the history of the game, adding yet another record to his illustrious career.
