Cristiano Ronaldo Suspended For One Match For Allegedly Making An Obscene Gesture

The Portuguese professional footballer Cristiano Ronaldo who is currently playing for Saudi Arabia club, Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League has been suspended for one match for making an obscene gesture during a match against Al-Shabab.

The match was played on Sunday and a video footage showed Ronaldo cupping his ear and thrusting his hand forward close to his pelvis in a repeated manner and it seemed that this gesture was targeted towards the fans of Al-Shabab who were chanting “Messi” during the match.

The Saudi Arabia Football Federation (SAFF) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee announced the decision of suspending Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday morning, the same day when Al-Nassr will play its next match against Al-Hazm in the evening.

In his explanation, the footballer told the committee that the gesture he made symbolizes victory and is pretty common in Europe. Other than one day suspension, Cristiano Ronaldo will also pay a fine of 20,000 Saudi Riyals ($5,333) to Al-Shabab in order to cover their expenses of filing the complaint and half of the amount will be paid to the federation.

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t have the right to appeal against the decision and his fans must be disappointed with this decision.
