CT2025: Ex-Pak Cricketer Advises PCB To Appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed As Mentor Of Pak Team

Team India will face Pakistan in a highly anticipated Champions Trophy clash next month. While Pakistan is hosting the tournament, India will play all their matches, including the knockouts, in Dubai due to security concerns.

Notably, the two teams last faced each other in the Champions Trophy final in 2017, where Pakistan secured a dominant victory under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has suggested that Sarfaraz Ahmed should be appointed as Pakistan’s mentor for the tournament, particularly for the match against India. He emphasized Sarfaraz’s experience in leading Pakistan to a significant ICC victory against India and believes his insights could be valuable for the side. Pakistan has faced a series of defeats against India in ICC events since their last win in the 2021 T20 World Cup, losing in the 2022 edition, the 2023 ODI World Cup, and again in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Basit Ali expressed his dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for delaying the appointment of a mentor, citing Afghanistan’s decision to bring in Younis Khan as an example of proactive planning. He pointed out that Sarfaraz’s experience in winning the Champions Trophy should make him an obvious choice for the mentor role against India. On his official YouTube channel, Basit remarked that Sarfaraz’s suggestions would be effective as he led the team to victory in the past and stressed that no other candidate was as suitable for the role.
