A student of Allen Bengaluru, Atul S Nadig, has won a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). This outstanding achievement by the Allen Bengaluru student has not only given honor to his name, but has also left an indelible mark in the history of mathematical prowess.
The 17-year-old prodigy’s victory is historic, demonstrating India’s ability in mathematics on a worldwide scale.
Students from 118 nations competed in the event, a true mathematical showcase. The 2017 International Mathematical Olympiad was once again the pinnacle of mathematical competitions.
Atul’s outstanding skills and commitment to the art of mathematics shined brilliantly among a distinguished gathering of young minds, catapulting him to the top of the competition and giving enormous pride to his nation.
Atul shared the’mantra’ for winning the International Mathematical Olympiad with India Today Education.
“I realized in 8th grade that was more to the subject of math than what we were taught in school. I was fascinated when I learned about Olympiad mathematics, and that started a journey just to learn more and solve those difficult problems,” says Atul.
“However, over time, I discovered that I enjoyed mathematics and that it was something I was passionate about,” he continues, reflecting on his first foray into the field of mathematics.
Atul says, “I prepared by visiting the Art of Problem Solving website, which contains a large collection of problems from contests around the world.” While I did read certain books for fundamental theory, I feel that problem-solving is the most significant aspect of Olympiad mathematics.”
He continues, “I was naturally overjoyed after winning the gold medal.I was pleased for myself and the entire squad, as this was India’s greatest result at IMO in several decades. Awareness of the Mathematical Olympiad has grown in India, and it’s wonderful to witness the results in our success in the IMO.”
During the event, Atul S Nadig was able to interact and compete with other brilliant minds from across the world since the IMO develops a worldwide community of young mathematicians.
Furthermore, Atul has encountered various hurdles and setbacks on his quest to become a mathematical genius.
He replies when asked how he keeps motivated during difficult times: “During tough times, to take my mind off things, I turn to my hobbies – playing chess, reading books, listening to music, and talking to my friends. My parents and online math friends have also helped me stay motivated and dedicated to math when I felt I wasn’t improving or performing as well as I expected.”
Conclusion:-
Bengaluru’s Atul S Nadig earned a gold medal in the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), demonstrating India’s mathematical brilliance. Since he learned about math in 8th grade, the 17-year-old has loved it. He prepared by visiting the Art of Problem Solving website and preparing for the IMO through a Pre-Departure Camp at HBCSE campus in Mumbai. Atul emphasizes the importance of finding passion and pursuing it, as many people believe engineering or medicine is the only way to succeed. The IMO also fosters a worldwide community of young mathematicians, with excursions and leisure activities after the contest. Atul’s motivation comes from hobbies like playing chess, reading books, listening to music, and talking to friends.
