The Bangladeshi cricket team performed pretty well in the league match against Afghanistan and kept their chances of entering the Super Four alive by defeating Afghanistan by a big margin of 89 runs.
The match was played yesterday at Gaddafi stadium, Lahore and after winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first and put up a huge total of 334/5 on the scoreboard with the help of brilliant century knocks by Mehidy Hasan (112 runs) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (104 runs).
In response, Afghanistan got wrapped at the score of 245 runs in 44.3 overs. The Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan was pretty happy with his team’s performance as he said this in the presentation, “We executed our plans really well, the fast bowlers especially bowled their heart out. This wasn’t an easy wicket to bowl on. We played very well all-round. It wasn’t easy for the fielders to play 50 overs and come and bat, so we were really lucky to win the toss.”
Talking about Mehidy’s performance, he said, “He got his chance up the order and proved himself, we always knew he had the ability.”
Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghanistan cricket team skipper said, “The outfield was quick and the target was chaseable, but we lost wickets. Their bowlers were good in the beginning, and our run rate was really low, that’s why we couldn’t win. We need to improve in all the departments. Today our bowling was not good enough, neither was our fielding.”
Here is what Player of the Match Mehidy said, “It was an excellent wicket, the ball was coming on easy so I just tried to strike through the line. It was an excellent partnership with Shanto.”
India is currently playing their second match against Nepal at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.
