Emergency BO Collections Day 1: Kangana Ranaut’s Biggest Opening in Five Years

Kangana Ranaut’s long-delayed directorial, Emergency, finally hit theaters this Friday. Although the opening day collections were modest, the film marked a significant milestone for the actress, securing her highest first-day box office numbers in five years. According to reports, the film earned ₹2.35 crore on its first day.

Comparing Emergency to Kangana’s Past Releases:

· Emergency leads as Kangana’s best solo opening in five years.

· Tejas (2023), directed by Sarvesh Mewara, earned ₹1.25 crore on its opening day.

· Dhaakad (2022), helmed by Razneesh Ghai, garnered ₹1.20 crore on its debut.

· Thalaivii (2021), AL Vijay’s biopic of J. Jayalalithaa, collected ₹1.46 crore across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi markets.

· Kangana’s previous biggest opener was Panga (2020), which made ₹2.70 crore on its first day before the pandemic disrupted the film industry.

About Emergency:

· The political drama features Kangana in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

· The film focuses on the controversial 21-month period of Emergency from 1975 to 1977.

· It faced delays and controversies, including issues with its censor certificate and allegations of misrepresentation of the Sikh community.

· Despite these challenges, Emergency released nationwide on Friday, January 17.

The opening numbers indicate that Emergency has resonated better with audiences compared to Kangana’s recent solo projects, showcasing her continued impact in the industry.
