Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has voiced strong support for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title hopes this season, expressing optimism that the franchise could finally break their long-standing title drought. Raina pointed to the team’s dramatically improved performances in IPL 2025 as a sign that this year might be different, especially for Virat Kohli, who has long chased the dream of lifting the coveted trophy.
RCB have shown exceptional form so far, losing just three out of their 11 matches. With the playoffs in sight, the team needs only one more win to seal their spot, further strengthening their case as strong contenders this season.
“There are strong chances because Royal Challengers Bengaluru is playing in a different league this year. They’ve defended scores like 150 and 136 at Chinnaswamy and their bowling unit has stepped up,” Raina said during a discussion on Star Sports.
He further highlighted the leadership and morale within the squad, particularly under the new captain who has managed to defeat the Chennai Super Kings twice—once in their own backyard and again at home. “The new captain has beaten Chennai Super Kings twice, once in Chennai and again at home, which speaks volumes. The dressing room is positive and these are signs of a team that can go all the way,” he added.
Virat Kohli, who has been the face of RCB for nearly two decades, came closest to securing the IPL title back in 2016. On that occasion, the team narrowly lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a moment that left fans heartbroken and the trophy just out of reach.
Reflecting on the current competition, Raina acknowledged the strength of other teams in the fray. “Yes, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are also doing well, but this might finally be Virat’s year to lift the trophy after 18 years,” he concluded.
With renewed energy, strategic execution, and a motivated squad, RCB’s title hopes appear more promising than ever—and Raina’s words only echo the belief held by millions of fans waiting to see Kohli’s long-awaited IPL triumph.
