The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been pretty serious about promoting domestic and test cricket and the former Indian cricketers seem to be very happy about it.
Recently the BCCI announced incentives for the players who will represent the country in test cricket on a regular basis and it has also made it clear to the players that they should represent their states at domestic level whenever they are not playing for the country.
Earlier, the names of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were slashed from the list of the players who got the annual contracts because they both didn’t play Ranji Trophy matches for their states despite getting repeated reminders.
The former Indian pacer Varun Aaron supported the BCCI’s move as he said in an interview, “Domestic cricket is obviously the bedrock of cricket in India. Without it, we wouldn’t have got the champion players that we have right now. So, it is absolutely right from the BCCI. There are a lot of cricketers in the domestic circuit who put in the hard yards, get a lot of runs and wickets. But sometimes they do not get the recognition they need, and I hope they get that in the future.”
There is no doubt that domestic cricket is of utmost importance if we want to have a strong team at international level, what do you say?
