Former England Test captain Joe Root is currently in exceptional form. The 33-year-old right-hander, ranked No. 1 in the ICC Test batter’s rankings, recently scored twin centuries in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. This performance allowed Root to surpass Alastair Cook’s record for the most Test centuries by an English player.
Root is now nearing another milestone, as he is on the verge of overtaking Cook to become England’s all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket.
Root’s outstanding performances in Test cricket have garnered widespread praise from fans and experts alike. Many former England players have hailed him as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
However, when former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was asked to compare Root and Indian star Virat Kohli, he had a different perspective. While Karthik acknowledged that Root’s statistics may make him seem the better Test batter, he emphasized that Kohli’s ability to perform in high-pressure moments and major series sets him apart.
During a show, DK said, “Look, numbers will tell you it’s Joe Root, but my heart, the fact that he (Kohli) is someone that I’ve seen play in close quarters for the longest time now, over a decade. And I know how he loves playing those big moments, big series. Somebody has asked him questions. He will come back to you with an answer so strong, you’ll be like, wow, why did I even ask that question? If I was given a choice, who would bat for my life? Virat Kohli, no doubt.”
Do you agree with Dinesh Karthik?
