Dzongu and Lachung in Sikkim

Officials said a reconstructed Bailey bridge over the Teesta River at Sangkalang in North Sikkim was opened for traffic on Thursday, restoring a critical link between the Mangan and Dzongu regions.

According to officials, the Sangklang bridge would reestablish crucial connectivity between North Sikkim’s Mangan, Dzongu, and Chungthang.

According to them, the Indian Army’s 72 Engineer Regiment of Trishakti Corps built the bridge successfully.

To restore connectivity between Mangan and Dzongu, a bridge that collapsed on February 11 was replaced by a new 180-foot Bailey bridge with a 24-ton load capability.

After more than two months, the local population’s movement was restricted, and the supply of necessary products and services was interrupted due to the collapse of the Bailey Suspension Bridge.

Despite difficult terrain and poor weather conditions, the army built the bridge in record time, causing minimal interruption to the local community.

The bridge’s opening will increase tourism in North Sikkim, especially in Chungthang, Lachung, and Lachen, where tourists from all over the nation congregate.

The locals in North Sikkim praised the Indian Army’s reconstruction of the Sangkalang bridge.
