Actress Neetu Chandra has accused rapper and singer Honey Singh of objectifying women and portraying them as mere sex symbols in his songs. Known for her performances in films like Garam Masala and Traffic Signal, Neetu Chandra recently filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against Singh’s latest song, Maniac, alleging that it promotes vulgarity and degrades women.

Neetu Chandra’s legal action is not limited to Honey Singh alone. The PIL also names lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi, who collaborated on the track. With her plea, the actress has urged Singh to modify the lyrics of his songs, arguing that they exploit the Bhojpuri language to “normalize vulgarity” and undermine the concept of women’s empowerment. The case is expected to be heard in court later this month.

Following her legal move, Neetu Chandra addressed the issue in an interview, where she made a passionate appeal for the government to ban obscene songs in Bihar. Expressing her concerns over the impact of such music on women, she emphasized how these songs create an uncomfortable environment for young girls and women in society.

“Vulgar Bhojpuri and Hindi songs are not leaving the girls and women going to school and college in Bihar, and they are forced to walk on the road with their eyes down. Due to these songs, women do not even like to watch TV at home. Many singers singing such songs have gained fame today, which can become an obstacle in the development of society and country,” she stated.

Neetu Chandra further questioned the government’s priorities, drawing a comparison between Bihar’s liquor ban and the need for stricter regulations on music that promotes obscenity.

“When girls or women will not be able to walk safely on the road, then will they be able to think about development? If a government can bring a law to ban liquor in its state to save women from drunken husbands, then can it not ban these vulgar songs for school-college going girls and women? I want there should be a complete ban on the production and playing of these songs in Bihar,” she added.

As of now, Honey Singh has not issued any response regarding Neetu Chandra’s PIL.
