India vs. New Zealand: First T20I postponed due to rain

The ground here was rendered impassable by the constant rain on Friday, forcing the cancellation of the first T20 International of the three-match series between India and New Zealand.

As part of their tour of New Zealand, India will play two more Twenty20 internationals and then three ODIs.

Following their elimination from Australia’s T20 World Cup semifinals, both teams entered the competition. Pakistan beat New Zealand, while India lost to eventual champions England.

Premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya is the Indian T20 team’s skipper in Rohit Sharma’s absence, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is his deputy.
Along with Rohit, other notable players who will not be participating in the tour include KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

Senior players were rested, so Sanju Samson, Umran Malik, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan were given a chance.

Following the T20 World Cup, the entire coaching staff—including head coach Rahul Dravid—will take a break.

As the Indian coach for the tour, NCA president VVS Laxman has been named.
On Sunday in Mount Maunganui, the upcoming T20 match will be played.
