December 14, 2023, marks the 100th birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor, the legendary actor, director, and producer whose work has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. The milestone is being celebrated across the country with heartfelt tributes, including a special episode of Indian Idol 15 and personal gestures from public figures.
Ahead of the centenary celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met members of the Kapoor family, including Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema Jain and daughter-in-law Neetu Kapoor. The meeting highlighted the cultural impact of Raj Kapoor, often referred to as the “Showman of Bollywood,” whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
In a promo for Indian Idol 15, shared by Sony Entertainment Television, the contestants paid tribute to Raj Kapoor by performing some of his timeless classics. On the judges’ panel were Karisma Kapoor, Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah.
The performances brought Karisma, Raj Kapoor’s granddaughter, to tears as she remembered her late grandfather. Known for his films like Awara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker, Raj Kapoor remains a revered figure in her life and the lives of millions across the globe.
In the video, Karisma Kapoor said while shedding tears, “Sorry I am getting very overwhelmed. Jab mein choti thi, mein bhi sochti thi ki kya mein kuch kar paungi, mere dadaji itne talented hai. Thank you ki aapne mujhe ek chota sa mauka diya to be worthy to be Raj Kapoor’s granddaughter. Thank you so much, everyone.”
