Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has agreed to enter rehabilitation following a proposal from Kapil Dev and his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates. The team stepped forward to offer assistance, conditional on Kambli’s willingness to take necessary steps to improve his health and financial situation.
Vinod Kambli, once a prodigious talent in Indian cricket, has faced severe financial difficulties and health issues in recent years. His primary income source, as he disclosed in 2022, is a BCCI pension of ₹30,000 per month, which has been insufficient to support his family of four. Despite undergoing rehabilitation 14 times in the past, Vinod Kambli has expressed his resolve to try again, saying, “I have no hesitation because until I have my family with me, I’m not afraid of anything.”
Vinod Kambli credited Sunil Gavaskar for being the first to respond to Kapil Dev initiative, showing unwavering support for his rehabilitation journey. Vinod Kambli’s gratitude extended to his wife, who he said has managed their household and financial burdens admirably during challenging times.
Acknowledging his current struggles, Kambli remains hopeful about returning stronger. He told Vickey Lalwani on YouTube, “I will complete it and return. I will come back.” His openness to rehabilitation has sparked hope among fans and well-wishers who want to see him regain his footing, both personally and professionally.
