Inspiring story of courageous Acid Attack survivor Ritu Saini

Ritu Saini has been a part of a documentary named Black Rose, Red Dress, and Deepika Padukone’s movie called Chhapaak. For those who don’t know her, Ritu is an acid attack survivor who is now an inspiration to many.

Ritu Saini, an acid attack victim from the state of Haryana, had huge goals like any other girl. But all of her ambitions were dashed in an instant when one of her relatives decided to assault her with acid in retaliation. Ritu Saini felt like giving up on life on multiple occasions, but thankfully, her family was her best support system.

Ritu Saini, a 17-year-old girl from Haryana, was interested in volleyball. She was a 10th-grade student who lamented the fact that she couldn’t play volleyball as often as she wanted to.

Her passion for volleyball began while she was in sixth grade at Saini High School in Rohtak, Haryana. She aspired to be a successful volleyball player in the future and worked hard every day to achieve that goal. But in a matter of seconds, a day, a guy, and acid reconstructed her whole existence.

As I write about the experience, my hands go cold and my words refuse to come out. I’m curious what she went through as an acid assault victim. It was far more than the term difficult can convey. Ritu Saini was on her way to Prem Nagar Chowk for her evening practice when she noticed something unusual.

When she got to the ground, she noticed two men on motorcycles approaching her, but she ignored them. Her greatest dread came true a few seconds later when the pillion rider sprayed acid on her face. She collapsed to the ground, screaming and wailing in agony, but others remained there helplessly watching her. Her brother was the one who came to her aid.

The incident occurred on July 23, 2012, and Ritu Saini grew afraid of the color red, which she was wearing at the time. According to Ritu Saini in an interview, everything had become black and she was writhing in anguish with a scorching feeling all over her body.

She is disappointed that our society did not come to her aid and instead stood by and watched her slump to the ground, yelling in pain. It is heartbreaking to learn this. It is remarkable how quickly individuals turn their backs on our society when they most need it. And this is something that must change, as must the thinking.

Ritu Saini’s battle did not finish there. Her neighbors who came over to check on her left condemning and disparaging her for how she appeared after the incident, which is ridiculous.

She also discovered that the attack was arranged by Ritu Saini’s 39-year-old relative, who gave the order to another guy to attack her.

He liked Ritu and wanted to marry her despite the 22-year age difference. He’d always said he’d take her away eventually, but she’d never given it any thought. And, in retaliation for not obtaining what he desired, he organized an acid assault.

When Ritu Saini saw herself in the mirror after almost two months, her initial impulse was to quit up. She endured 14 procedures, including plastic surgery and skin grafting, although the first few days were more painful than it may sound here.

Every time she ate, blood oozed from her mouth, and she had difficulties drinking water and sleeping. Receiving encouragement from others gave her hope.

Ritu Saini’s family had been financially drained by the acid assault, and the amount of debt had caused Ritu to suffer from mental health concerns. She immediately came into contact with the Chhanv Foundation, which assisted her in both emotional and financial recovery.

Ritu has assisted numerous individuals both domestically and globally as a member of the organization. She has appeared in a number of films, including Black Rose, Red Dress and Chhapaak.
