Pakistan cricket has been struggling for a while, despite numerous changes in leadership, coaching staff, selection committees, and administration. The Pakistan Cricket Board has frequently reacted impulsively to the team’s poor performances over the last couple of years, but results have continued to disappoint. Inzamam-ul-Haq, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated cricketers, has now issued a stern warning to the PCB, stressing that if a proper solution is not found soon, the country’s cricketing standards will decline even further.
“In the past two years, the performance of the Pakistan team has been on a decline. If we don’t work in the right direction, we will continue to fall further,” said Inzamam, as per Cricket Pakistan.
Expressing his frustration over the frequent changes in Pakistan’s cricket setup since the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Inzamam criticized the lack of stability in the team. He firmly believes that constant alterations in management, coaching, and player selection will not address the root causes of the problem. Instead, he has urged the PCB to take a step back and carefully analyze the issues at hand.
“Changing management, coaches, and players repeatedly will not solve the problem. We need to sit down and think about where the mistakes are being made. Instead of making too many changes, we need to think carefully about where things are going wrong. If there are constant changes, players won’t gain the confidence they need, and the situation will remain the same,” he further added.
Inzamam also spoke about Babar Azam, the team’s most high-profile batter, who has been facing heavy criticism along with the rest of the squad. Acknowledging Babar’s struggles, Inzamam emphasized that every player experiences rough patches, but Pakistan’s overall performance has been disappointing for months. He believes the key to revival lies in backing the players and working collectively to identify and rectify errors.
“Babar Azam is a top player. Everyone goes through a rough patch, but the national team hasn’t been playing good cricket for the past few months. Trust the management and the players, and work together to identify where the mistakes are,” he further said.
With Pakistan cricket at a crossroads, Inzamam’s words serve as a call for introspection and long-term planning. Whether the PCB heeds his advice remains to be seen, but the need for a stable and well-thought-out approach has never been more critical.
