Hon Rahul Narwekar, the youngest speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, was recently felicitated at a special event held to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Jalkiran CHS, Cuffe Parade.
Shri Narwekar was elected as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly last year. It should be noted that he got 164 votes in support, although he required only 145 votes to win. He serves as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Colaba Assembly seat of Maharashtra. During the election as Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Shri Narwekar was pitted against Rajan Salvi, Maha Vikas Aghadi’s candidate.
Shri Narwekar is a renowned figure in the field of politics in Maharashtra. He is a lawyer by profession. He was appointed as an MLA for the first time, during the Assembly elections held in 2019. Shri Narwekar was associated with Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party in the past. He has also served as the Shiv Sena Youth Wing’s spokesperson.
Shri Narwekar hails from a political family in Maharashtra. His father, Shri Suresh Narwekar, worked as a counselor. In 2014, Rahul Narwekar was in the Shiv Sena. During that time, he was presenting his claim to contest in the Lok Sabha elections. However, he failed to get the ticket.
Shri Narwekar joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after Shiv Sena refused him the ticket. The NCP fielded Shri Narwekar from the Maval Lok Sabha constituency. But Shri Narwekar had to face defeat. Later, he joined the BJP and became the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on July 3, 2022.
It is noteworthy that at the age of 44, Shri Narwekar became the second person to be elected as the youngest speaker of any state in the country. The first person to be elected for this role was Shivraj Patil chakurkar (at 42 years of age).
Jalkiran CHS, at the Golden Jubilee celebration of which Shri Narwekar was felicitated, stands tall in the prime area of Cuffe Parade. To live in the area of Cuffe Parade is a matter of great pride, as it is a historic and significant business district of the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Cuffe Parade, which is now amongst the poshest areas in Mumbai, was developed after 75,000 sq meters of land offshore west Colaba was reclaimed. It has an emerging neighborhood and boasts of a promising social and physical infrastructure. It is bordered to the north by Nariman Point which, along with Cuffe Parade, forms the greater CBD region of the city. Cuffe Parade is well-connected to other parts of the city by road, which passes through the heart of this beautiful and bustling suburb of Mumbai.

This residential building, which exists in the proximity of prominent shopping malls, movie theatres, schools, and hospitals, has been proudly standing in the area for the last 50 years. Jalkiran CHS was built by S Raheja Realty, a reputed real estate developer that was incepted in the year 1965.
The Golden Jubilee celebration event of Jalkiran CHS, where Shri Rahul Narwekar was felicitated, took place on Saturday, 14th January 2023. Many eminent personalities, including BJP Corporators, Makarand Narwekar, and Harshita Narvekar, were present at the event.
Hon Secretary of Jalkiran CHS, Dr. Padmakar K Nandekar, who felicitated Shri Rahul Narwekar at the event, is the Former President of the Rotary Club as well as the Former Secretary General of Cuffe Parade Residents Association.
Dr. Nandekar said, “I have created a vision to make Cuffe Parade as beautiful as Central Park of Manhattan of New York City in the U.S. I am working to achieve the vision since 1999.”
Shri Rahul Narwekar said he will support Dr. Nandekar’s vision. He also said he received approval from Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde of Rs.500 crore to spend on the beautification of South Mumbai.
Shri Rahul Narwekar also said that he will support the mission of Dr. Nandekar to make Cuffe Parade encroachment free. He added that he is going to do astroturfing in part of Bay View Marina Garden, which is developed by Dr. Padmakar Nandekar and others.
Dr. Nandekar is one of the biggest and most popular names in advertising and marketing communications. He founded Universal Communications Ltd. and now serves as its Chairman and Managing Director. Universal Communications is an advertising agency that deals with Television Channels rights, sales promotion of blockbuster films, as well as sponsorship of movies, and events.
A multifaceted person, Dr. Nandekar is also known as a pioneer in successfully starting TV Channels such as DD Metro, Zee Cinema, and Regional Channels in India. Furthermore, he is a philanthropist who has actively taken part in countless public welfare activities.
Dr. Nandekar has a long history with non-governmental organizations, particularly Rotary International. Since 2004, he has served as Past President and progressive subordinate of the Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City. His Club got the highest Rotary honor, “Presidential Citation with Distinction,” during his stint as Club President from 2010-11. And a Gold Medal for 41 District Appreciation. He has attended eight Rotary International Conventions throughout the world so far.
Dr. Nandekar was in charge of building the stunning Bay View Marina Garden -BVM in an area of 2.7 lakh square feet. He is also in charge of the CPRA Greens Garden on Cuffe Parade. Dr. Nandekar has prevented unlawful encroachment on government land in South Mumbai by creating lovely gardens.
Rotary International has acknowledged Dr. Padmakar Nandekar’s services on several occasions. He has received the “Rotary Foundation District Contribution Award” as well as the “Avenue of Service Citation” for his excellent efforts in all areas of his societal service. The Economic Times recognized his efforts by bestowing him with the Changemaker 2022 Award.
