Jasprit Bumrah As Full-Time Captain? BCCI Gets Stern Warning From Ex-Indian Cricketer

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif has expressed concerns about making pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah the successor to Rohit Sharma as captain of the Indian team. Kaif believes that the additional responsibility of leadership could be a burden on Bumrah, potentially affecting his fitness and career longevity.

Kaif advised the team to consider a batter for the leadership role instead. He recommended Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul as suitable candidates, emphasizing their potential to bring stability and consistent performance to the side. Kaif took to social media platform X to voice his opinion, stating that the BCCI should think carefully before appointing Bumrah as a full-time captain.

He stressed that Jasprit Bumrah should focus on taking wickets and maintaining his fitness, warning that added leadership duties and emotional involvement during matches could increase the risk of injuries and shorten his career. He compared Bumrah to a “golden goose” whose primary role should remain bowling.

Kaif further highlighted Bumrah’s past fitness issues as a significant factor against his captaincy candidacy. He reiterated that a batter would be a more suitable choice for the captaincy role due to the comparatively lower physical demands of batting.
