Kris Srikkanth Is Against Playing Tilak Varma In Asia Cup 2023, Here’s Why

The Indian cricket team is getting ready for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and one name that is getting a lot of attention these days is of young cricketer Tilak Varma. The 20 years old cricketer made his international debut in the recently concluded T20I Series against West Indies and he impressed everyone with his performance so much that now he has been included in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023.

Though many former cricketers are happy with his selection, the former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth is not happy with playing Tilak Varma in such an important and big tournament straightaway. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Kris Srikkanth stated, “Do not give Tilak Varma debut in a big tournament, play him in the ODI series before that.”

The former Indian cricketer who was a part of the 1983 World Cup winning squad further said, “Tilak has fantastic potential, a brilliant player — but he has to play a couple of one-day series before putting him in the WC squad. We need to groom him properly.”

On the other hand, chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Tilak Varma has been included in the squad for giving him exposure. He said, “Tilak Varma is promising. Asia Cup is a big opportunity for him. We saw some real promise not only in terms of performances but also temperament during the T20I series against West Indies. This will give him exposure. He is also a left-hander.”

What is your opinion in this regard? Do you agree with Kris Srikkanth?
