Laid-off Meta employee’s lifelong dream realized with Google job offer

Hou Zhuoni Hermione was laid off from Meta in April, just before her third work anniversary, and after waiting five months, she finally received a job offer from Google, her dream employer, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.

Hermione thanked Meta for hiring her during the pandemic and for treating her well. She worked as a project sourcing manager for Meta in Singapore. Her ultimate ambition, though, was to work for Google rather than Meta.

“Some of you may have overheard me saying that Google is my dream employer because the commute is less than 15 minutes by foot. The commute is now a 16+ hour flight, which is the realization of the dream, she wrote on LinkedIn.

As EMEA Regional Commodity Manager, she will work in Dublin, Ireland.

I’m delighted to be wearing the same shoes I did at 20. This almost makes me feel like I’ve never traveled overseas. I’ll try my hardest and enjoy it “Hermione remarked.

The Reality Labs branch of Meta, which focuses on the metaverse, is apparently intending to lay off an unspecified number of staff. According to sources quoted by a well-known media publication, Meta’s internal discussion platform, Workplace, was used to inform staff members of this news.

Since the preceding year, Meta has drastically reduced its staff, cutting nearly 21,000 employees in a variety of industries.
