Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has proposed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) should consider signing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025 auction if he is released by the Mumbai Indians (MI). Kaif believes that Rohit, a highly intelligent and experienced cricketer, could be the ideal choice to lead RCB, replacing Virat Kohli as captain.
Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful IPL captains with five titles under his belt for Mumbai Indians, was removed as MI skipper before IPL 2024, with Hardik Pandya taking over the leadership role. However, Hardik struggled in his debut season as MI captain, securing only four wins and finishing at the bottom of the points table.
Amid rumors of Rohit parting ways with MI ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Kaif expressed his views in a video that has gone viral. The 37-year-old Rohit, according to Kaif, excels in managing players and maximizing their potential on the field, making him a valuable asset for any team.
In a video which is going viral, Mohammad Kaif can be heard saying, “Players mei 19-20 hota hai, mai guarantee bol raha hoon players mei 19-20 hota hai. Ye banda 18 ko 20 kar deta hai. 18 wale player ko 20 kar deta hai. Gale mei haath daal ke kaam nikalna jaanta hai. Tactical moves jaanta hai, kisko kaha fit karna hai 11 mein, vo role badhiya batata hai. Mera manna hai agar mauka miley RCB ko toh bhai le lo Rohit Sharma ko as a captain (The names of all these players—there are 19-20 players, I am telling you for sure. There are 19-20 players; this guy can make 18-20. He can make 18-20; he knows how to put his hand around the neck and make a move. He knows the tactical moves and where to fit in the 11. He plays that role well, so I believe if the RCB gets a chance, then take Rohit Sharma as a captain).”
Rohit Sharma, who started his IPL journey in 2008 with the Deccan Chargers, has been a pivotal part of Mumbai Indians since 2011. He is MI’s all-time leading run scorer and holds records for the most IPL matches played and most sixes hit for the franchise.
As RCB continues to seek its first IPL title, Kaif’s suggestion to bring in a proven leader like Rohit could offer the team a fresh approach and renewed hope. Whether or not RCB pursues this strategy remains to be seen, but the idea has certainly stirred excitement among fans.
